About Augustine

The Young and Determined Bodybuilder

Augustine Lee Kong Seong is a familiar face not only in the sporting arena but he is one of the few athletes in Singapore who graced TV commercials, dramas, Chinese movies, print advertisements and even major product launch events.

Born in September 1954, Augustine is the third child of Michael Lee. At the age of 3, Augustine came to Singapore with his three brothers and sister, when his father worked for the British army after World War II

Augustine started out in the oilfield industry back in 1970 and headed on to worked as a plant supervisor at Wearnes Precision for the next 15 years before he moved to British Petroleum for 3 years as plant supervisor. He discovered bodybuilding at the age of 30, when he found EverGreen gym in 1982.

The Bodybuilder

EverGreen was located at Mount Emily : there was no air conditioning with a zinc roof on top of the building, and was built on a piece of bare land. Gym equipment was basic and rusty, laid on bare cement flooring. Nevertheless Augustine found weight training extremely stimulating for the body and he started to love the feeling of pumping with weights. Weighing only at 69kg, he was determined to gain some muscles through proper exercise.

After 2 years of training, the gym approached him to participate in a small local bodybuilding competition. That was his very first experience in competitive bodybuilding, but he failed to make it to the finals. Despite so, Augustine did not feel disappointed. Instead his drive to do better was even stronger than before and he was determined to win. Since then he never looked back.

In 1986 he won his very first Gold Medal in Philippines at the South East Asian Championships. He continued to train hard and participated very year in competitions and attained numerous medals over the next 20 years. The first major haul was in 1993 when he won the Heavyweight division during the Asian Championships hosted in Singapore .

Augustine began his career in fitness in 1998 when Ray Wilson California Fitness opened its doors at Orchard Road . Started as a part-time personal trainer, he held two jobs simultaneously: going to work at the gym every evening after he finished his shift at BP.

It was not long before his potential was spotted by the CEO Eric Levine , who offered the post of a Fitness Manager to take charge of the Fitness Department. Augustine took the challenge and decided on his major career change. He worked very hard and got promoted to a Country Fitness Manager when Ray Wilson California Fitness Centers opened its second club in Singapore at Republic Plaza , Raffles Place .
